What is a PEC E-Mail?
The certified email inbox is a paid service and can only be provided by companies that meet the prescribed state requirements. The website of the state data authority, DigitPA, lists the authorized entities (see the list on DigitPA - page available only in Italian).
Why do I need a PEC E-Mail in Italy?
Since October 20, 2012, by means of decree-law no. 179/2012, converted into law no. 222 of 12/17/2012, individual companies are required to communicate their certified email address (PEC) to the Companies Register. Only inactive individual companies subject to insolvency proceedings are excluded.
Therefore, starting from that date, all registration requests for individual companies must also contain the
PEC email address. The absence of the same prevents the registration of the individual company.

How much does a PEC E-Mail cost?
The costs amount to 25 euros for the initial setup and then 25 euros per year.

Certified Email Address (PEC)
Since January 2009, all newly established companies are required to provide their Certified Email Address (PEC) at the time of registration with the business register. Existing companies must communicate their certified email address by November 2011 (Article 16, paragraph 6 of Legislative Decree No. 280/2008).

The certified email mailbox is subject to charges
and can only be provided by companies that meet the requirements
established by the State. The authorized subjects are listed
on the homepage of the state data agency DigitPA
(see the list on DigitPA - page available only in Italian).
Sole proprietorships are not subject to the obligation of communicating the PEC.
Certified email has the same legal value as a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, provided that both sender and recipient use certified email.
